The fourth release in our Cask Exchange program features Lucky Envelope Brewing from the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. For this release we chose to fill the beer casks with a 5-malt spirit that ran through our stills immediately after a Peated spirit run, imparting a distant peat smoke flavor. Additionally, the Imperial Stout that Lucky Envelope aged in our casks had a prior life in Malbec casks adding a floral quality that shines through even in the finished whiskey.
What is the Cask Exchange?
Westland’s Cask Exchange is a series of single malt whiskey bottlings driven by demand for casks by Washington brewers. Instead of selling these casks to local breweries, we loan casks to like-minded brewers from our region. We offer no requirement for what type of beer fills these casks—only for them to be returned after use. Beer finishes are far from novel, but this program isn't about being unique, it's about forging meaningful partnerships and making something together that couldn't have existed before.
